Investing in Women and Young Girls
One of the critical global challenges is the empowerment of women, defined as achieving equal access to economic resources and enabling them to use these resources to exert greater control over their lives. Women face various inequalities such as poverty, gender-based violence, stigma, discrimination, limited representation in decision-making, and barriers to education and capital. Amid crises, there is often a significant shift in gender roles, with more women becoming household heads and some resorting to activities like prostitution or taking up arms to cope with disrupted livelihoods.
CIDA has been actively addressing these challenges through initiatives aimed at economically empowering women. By providing access to financial resources, skills training, and support for entrepreneurship, CIDA helps women overcome economic barriers and gain greater control over their futures. These efforts not only enhance women’s economic independence but also contribute to broader societal goals of gender equality and sustainable development.
