Visit of the Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon

The Canadian High Commissioner to Cameroon visited our Buea office , engaging in a productive discussion with Community Initiative for Developmental Action and partners. The focus of the meeting was on the significant initiatives addressing gender-based violence (GBV), prisoners’ rights, women’s economic empowerment, and community development. The discussions highlighted numerous collaborative opportunities aimed at achieving meaningful impact in these critical areas.

Round-Table Discussion on Human Rights Advocacy

On March 26,2024 a significant round-table discussion organized by Defend the Defenders Africa brought together key stakeholders, including the President and Human Rights Rapporteur in Africa. Held under the theme of human rights advocacy, the event garnered attention for its insightful dialogue and impactful outcomes.

Key Highlights:

1. Participants: The event was attended by prominent figures in human rights advocacy, including representatives from Defend the Defenders Africa, the President, and the Human Rights Rapporteur in Africa.

2. Focus Areas:

   – Challenges Faced by Women Human Rights Defenders:

 Community Initiative for Developmental Action highlighted the struggles of women human rights defenders in the NW/SW regions. Key issues discussed included gender-based violence, child protection, and the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations. 

   – Disability Inclusiveness:

Discussions underscored the importance of disability inclusiveness within the human rights framework, emphasizing the need for equitable access and opportunities for persons with disabilities.

   – Plight of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs):

On May 11, 2024 Reach Out organized a significant initiative known as the Peace Table discussion, focusing on advancing Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) in the region. Community Initiative for Developmental Action (CIDA) actively participated in this event, reaffirming its commitment to promoting sustainable peace in NW/SW Cameroon through various strategic initiatives.

Key Initiatives and Commitments:

1.Thematic Areas of Focus:

  • Human Rights Advocacy:

 CIDA reiterated its dedication to advocating for human rights within the community, emphasizing inclusivity and justice.

  • Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS):

 The organization highlighted its efforts in combating GBV and promoting SRHR, as well as providing MHPSS services to support individuals affected by conflict.

  • Disability Inclusiveness:

 CIDA underscored the importance of inclusivity for persons with disabilities, ensuring their rights and needs are addressed in peace-building efforts.
